We gather each Sunday morning during the regular church year, at 9:30 am and 11:15 am. The regular church year runs from the first Sunday after Labor Day in September to the second Sunday in June. During the summer we have one service at 10:00 a.m starting on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. Religious Education programs for children in grades Pre-K through 7 take place at the same time as worship.

Minister Rev. Dr. Nicole Kirk leading Adults in Worship

The majority of services are led by our ministers.

In format, many of our services follow a similar pattern, including a musical prelude, an opening reading, singing of hymns, a sermon and possibly a responsive reading. For a sample Order of Service, click here.

Some of our Sunday worship services are completely different, finding inspiration in realms ranging from poetry to jazz. Each service closes with the entire congregation  holding hands for the benediction, delivered by the leaders of the service.

Holding Hands for the Benediction

There are also some special Sunday programs. We have an intergenerational Water Communion Service on the first Sunday of the church year in the fall; we bring in water collected from summer vacation destinations or a favorite pool or beach or even the kitchen tap. We talk about places and activities that inspire or renew us as we combine the water, in the process celebrating the way that we as individuals come together in community. The commingled water is used throughout the year for child dedications and weddings. All are invited to participate.

Music of all types plays an important and integral part in our worship experience.  Our music director Mitchell Vines performs on organ, piano and harpsichord and frequently brings in guest singers and instrumentalists. The church owns two baroque violins which can be heard several times a year, played by professional musicians. Talented members of our congregation also perform, including an adult choir. (For more on Mitchell, click here.)

Services generally run about one hour.

A nursery and a sun room with live video-feed of the services are also available.

After services and classes, adults and children gather in Fellowship Hall, on the church’s lower level, for coffee, beverages, snacks and conversation.

During the summer months, from the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend to the Sunday of Labor Day Weekend, we have a single service at 10:00 am, led by visiting ministers, guest speakers or congregation members. There is a summer program of child care and children’s activities.
